Body Mass Index

Body Mass Index (BMI) is a mathematical formula that correlates highly with body fat. It helps to determine whether you are at a healthy weight or have too much body fat.
Studies have shown that a BMI of 25 or higher is associated with an increased health risk of conditions that include coronary heart disease, certain forms of cancer, stroke, high blood pressure and non insulin-dependent diabetes.

My Height is 5 feet 6 inches.
·         At 180 lbs my BMI was: 29.1.
·          Currently I am 148 lbs, BMI is: 23.1

Underweight 114 or less
0 - 18.4
Healthy 155 lbs or less
18.5 - 24.9
Overweight 186 lbs or less
25.0 - 29.9
Obese 247 lbs or less
30.0 - 39.9
Morbid 248 lbs or greater
40.0+

This week I lost an additional 3 inches making it a total of 25  1/2 inches lost.  And an additional 2 lbs. since last week.  During this 1st week of Phase 3, I have been fluctuating between 148 and 149 lbs.  All the while, increasing my caloric intake to 1500 a day.  Very GOOD!  Add to that, my BMI is no longer border line Obese.  Eeks!

I am Melting Away while Gaining Health !

Important Note:
  • While BMI is a better indicator of body fatness and associated health risks than height-weight tables, BMI does not distinguish body fat from muscle. Nor does it take into account the distribution of body fat. Like height-weight charts, more heavily muscled people may be classified as overweight (BMI range 25-30) yet they may not necessarily be overweight.
  • The above chart is for my particular height.
