Normal fluctuations

As I blogged yesterday, while I was maintainning in the last 2 months, my body weight fluctuated an average of 1 -2 lbs.  Remember, I was off the protocol.  This brings to mind; what is a 'normal' fluctuation in body weight and why?

Nutritionist, Joy Bauer, on NBC's Today Show, May 31, 2011, Joy's Diet SOS segment, offered an answer to these questions.

Q. What is a 'normal fluctuation' of body weight? And, Why?

A. "Normal fluctuation of body weight from day to day is 1 - 3 pounds.
If your food is in check, know that on a morning to morning weigh-in your weight will fluctuate.  Mainly because of:
  • water retention
  • salty foods
  • carbohydrate (starches) rich meals. pasta meals will draw water temporarily
  • bowel irregularities and harmone changes
If your day to day weigh-in is driving you crazy, weigh-in once a week."

Notice how water retention is one of the main reasons for fluctuating weight.  Whether through eating carbohydrates or salty foods.

Haven't been eating or craving the pasta or salty foods I use to eat before I 1st started on the protocol.  My carb cravings centers around bread/s. It started sneaking in and increasing on a day to day basis.  But, I have to admit, I was no longer satisfied with any bread.  Before whether it was great bread or not I had to have bread.  Just keep me away from Zabar's and their Olive Loaf.  Yum.

Patience and compassion has to start with ME.  Melting The Fat Away!
